LARGEST LOCAL ADVERTISING COLLECTION GOES TO AUCTION
Mont Alto, PA. The name David R. “Sonny” Monn (1934-2020) rings a bell for many locals in South Central Pennsylvania as an avid collector of local memorabilia. Born in Chambersburg PA, David was a lifelong resident of the Mont Alto area. He graduated from Quincy High School and later attended Penn State Mont Alto. He was well known for his vast collection of early local items from the Franklin County and Pen Mar regions. Being a former employee of Hurley Auctions as well as a close family friend, made it an easy decision for the family to choose Matt Hurley to auction off the estate.
The auction boasts the largest collection of local advertising pieces from Mont Alto, Quincy, Five Forks, Waynesboro, Greencastle, and surrounding areas ever to be sold at once to the public and includes such items as: Mont Alto fraternal badges, local stoneware and red ware pottery, early local calendars, yearbooks, bottles, and much more. Many of the pieces are rare and hard to find.
“This is such an amazing opportunity for us to sell so many local items to the public in one place. Some of the items are so rare I haven’t seen them available to the public in over 20 years except for the one time I auctioned it to Dave,” said Matt Hurley owner of Hurley Auctions. “We are so excited to share one of many upcoming sales from Mr. Monn’s estate with those who will appreciate and value these local treasures.”
