Estate / Downsizing – Personal Property Auctions

We have conducted thousands of auctions and appraisals so you can rest assured that your valuables are in good and caring hands. Many items fall under the category of personal property. It includes items old and new, big and small. You name it and it has probably been sold at an auction.

When selling personal property there are several decisions that need to be made.

  • What type of auction should I have?
  • When should I have my auction?
  • What should I sell?

We have sold everything at auction from valuable and fragile antiques to farm machinery. We understand that many times these sales are the result of a major life change and we bring that sensitivity with us every step of the way.

Types of Auctions:

About: We have always tried to offer our clients the latest and greatest technology. We are one of the pioneers of online only auctions. We quickly recognized the value of an online bidding platform that allowed interested parties to bid 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world. Online auctions allow us to market your belongings to the greatest number of people in the most efficient and cost effective manner, leading to the greatest return to our sellers.

Society is quickly changing. People are busy. They don't have time to sit in your backyard all day waiting for that one item to be sold only to miss it because they went to the food stand for a hot dog and piece of cake. Today’s buyers are tech savvy and they want to bid on their terms and have access at their fingertips. With an online auction, bidders can view and bid on your items 24 hours a day from the comfort of their home in their PJ’s and bedroom slippers. With our auctions we regularly attract bidders from around the world. We have shipped antiques cars to Germany, Heavy equipment to South America and antiques to distant locations around the globe. With an online auction conducted by Hurley auctions we just don't sell your belongings to your neighbors we sell them to the world!!!!!

The advantages of online auctions are numerous

  • More bidders: We don't just sell to your neighbors we attract tens of thousands of bidders from around the world.
  • Time: Your items are exposed to potential buyers for weeks to bid rather than one day when only those that can be at your auction can bid.  Nobody has time for that!
  • Inclement Weather:  Rain, Wind, Cold. Heat, Snow, Sleet or Hail won't affect your auction.  As we like to say "It’s always beautiful online" No more renting expensive tents or worrying that people won't come because of the weather.
  • $$$$ With more bidders comes greater competition leading to higher prices for your items.
  • Less liability:  With an online auction you limit the risk of someone being hurt on your property or someone stealing or damaging your valuables.
  • Less expenses: You no longer need to pay to box and pack and move your items, rent tents, toilets, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.......
  • Marketing:  Marketing cost are cut considerably because you now can reach a worldwide audience with the click of a button.
  • You don't need hundreds of items to have an auction.  We conduct single item auctions on items such as recreational vehicles, motorcycles, pianos, boats, tractors, etc.....

What can Hurley Auctions sell?

We can sell almost anything: On average 98% of practically everything in your home can be sold through an online auction. You name it, we have probably sold it from valuable antiques to farm equipment, guns to aircraft, specialty collections (paper weights, trains, coins, books, sports memorabilia, etc) to high tech medical equipment, and more.

How much does it cost?

We work on a commission plus labor and advertising basis. Meaning we keep a percentage of the proceeds of what is sold. There is no upfront or out of pocket expenses in most cases. After discussing what you are selling and what would be involved we would be able to give you the actual percentage it would cost to conduct your auction. Because we work on a commission basis we want to get the highest possible price for your items. We truly have your best interest at heart because when we make you more money we make more money

How long does it take?

When necessary we can conduct auctions in as little as 4 days from start to finish. Ideally we like 20-24 days to complete your auction

Case Studies

Case study 1: My children enjoy working in our business and like being able to earn money. I suggested that they attend some back yard auctions that weren't conducted by our company and buy some things and then resell them on one of our online auctions. The results we amazing! My 11 year old daughter spent $37.00 and then resold the items she bought on one of our online auctions for $505.00 and she still has the best item to sell and it should bring over 100.00. Our 15 year old son was a little more of a risk taker spending $202.00. He sold his items for over $1400.00. His best item he paid $2.00 for and sold for 144.00.

Case study 2: In the past clothing and items you would find in a bedroom closet were donated or thrown away. With our online auctions we appeal to a much broader buyer base. I recently was touring a home with the attorney representing the estate and he commented on the contents of the bedroom closet and said "I guess you should just bag up the clothing and shoes and take it to goodwill". I suggested that we try to sell it and see what happened. We carefully arranged the items in the closet and sorted the items into groups to be sold as part of the online auction. At the end of the auction the attorney, the family and our staff was shocked when we totaled what the contents of the closet brought and we realized that it had sold for over $ 1000.00. The most important thing we can stress to those handling estates and downsizing is to not throw anything away. Please wait until one of our trained professionals has an opportunity to evaluate what you have to sell and what might be most valuable. We have rescued hundreds of thousands of treasure from landfills. Remember one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
